Wake up to birdsong and river views at Fulham Homestead, a beautifully restored 1840s guesthouse set on a working hobby farm right on the banks of the Glenelg River, in the quiet farming country of Kanagulk on the edge of the Grampians.
This is a genuine piece of Victorian history. The guesthouse was once part of the original Fulham Station, a property that stretched across 67,000 acres in its heyday. The old ironstone walls — quarried right here on the farm and standing a full two feet thick — have been carefully restored into a warm, comfortable home that holds on to all its heritage character while giving you every modern comfort you'd want.
There's plenty of room to spread out. Three bedrooms sleep up to eight guests, with two queen beds and four singles, and one bedroom has its own ensuite. You'll also find 2.5 bathrooms, a big lounge, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a full laundry, so whether it's a family holiday, a group of friends or a multi-generational trip, everyone has their own space. The sunroom looks out over a magnificent old Moreton Bay fig and is a lovely spot for a morning cuppa.
We've made sure you'll be comfortable whatever the season: two cosy wood combustion heaters and a new split-system keep things warm in winter and cool through summer, and there are ceiling fans in every bedroom. Free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, dishwasher, oven and washing machine are all here, and we provide fresh towels and linen.
Step out the door and the rambling garden leads you down to the Glenelg River, where you can swim, drop a line, or simply sit and watch the water drift by. This is a real working farm, so expect a friendly welcome from our pet sheep and dogs, and keep an eye out for the local kangaroos and wallabies. The kookaburras will laugh you awake of a morning and the cockies can get gloriously loud — all part of the rural experience.
Your hosts live in the main homestead just 15 metres away, so we're always around for a chat or a hand if you need one, while you enjoy the peace and privacy of a place all your own.
It also makes an ideal base for exploring the region. You're within easy reach of Halls Gap and the Grampians, the Black Ranges, and Rocklands Reservoir, where you can launch the boat and chase cod and trout. Or you can just settle in, slow right down, and do a whole lot of pleasant nothing. You'll need a car to reach us and get about, and there's free private parking at the front door.
Please note the guesthouse is kept pet-free, with the exception of assistance and service dogs, who are always welcome.
Come and experience authentic farm-stay living with a real slice of history at Fulham Homestead. We'd love to have you.
